Finding areas to dump the high volume, heavy weight of the snow
Forced to use skid steer or front end loader, one bucket at a time
Snow and ice piles were left on some trails by private contractors
Skid steer left a narrow pathway - not wide enough for removal equipment
Some plow truck blades were completely ground down
Our suppliers were out of stock and shipments were behind schedule due to impassable roads. We still have one truck awaiting a blade.
Staffing level down due to Holidays. We worked two 8-hour shifts for 48 hours during heaviest part of storm. Staff on leave returned after New Year’s.
We continue to work nights and semi-rotating shifts to proceed with cleanup efforts. We expect this to go on for weeks to come.
Many of these challenges, along with additional duties and functions, were the first I’ve participated in or seen in my 22 years of service with the City.
